Ireland: Where to stay in Dublin & other 'need to knows'
So we're all in agreement that Dublin is a little bit amazing right? As it's just a hop, skip and a jump across the channel and packed full of craic it makes the perfect destination for a weekend away. Here's what you need to know when planning your break:
Ireland: Dublin's secret cocktail bars
Let me take you back in time to the 1920’s when the USA banned alcohol – are they mad? This is a decision made by a country which thinks it’s a good idea to let kids have guns and use the term ‘bae’ without any sense of irony though so they haven’t got a great track record on good ideas. Anyway, 1920’s prohibition sparked a wave of secret liquor joints called ‘speakeasies’ where you could still get your vodka on the down low away from the po po. These days of course speak easy bars aren’t necessary but none the less this style of bar is tres fashionable at the moment. I visited a few of Dublin’s best.

Spain: Barcelona: What to do
Even staying for 4 nights I struggled fitting in everything I wanted to do, the city has so much to offer. The great thing about a city break in Barcelona is that it has its own beach - you can do a city and beach break in the one trip. You can also get the ferry over to Ibiza so you could even soak up a little culture before forgetting it all on The White Isle - time it right and it may even be cheaper than a direct flight!
Ireland: Dublin - Craic in the New Year
The one thing Liverpool lacks at New Year is any sort of city-wide celebration. Unless you have tickets for town or one of your mates has taken the brave decision to host a house party then your choices are pretty much restricted to staying in bed reading your kindle and purposely falling asleep before midnight. Bah humbug. Dublin will stand for no such shenanigans, there's no limping in of the New Year there, new years start with a bang and of course, a lot of craic.
Spain: Barcelona: Where to stay
Chain hotels are all well and good but if you want a trip abroad where every aspect is memorable, including the hotel, then boutique is the way to go. My first stay in a boutique hotel was on a trip to Malta and I still miss the quirky rooms and bed that dreams are made of - when planning a trip to Barcelona, I couldn't be more excited about trying out not one, but two such hotels, both as individual as each other...
