Don't make the mistake that we did and not check the weather before you set out to visit here. If it's too windy and the sea is choppy the boats won't go out to take you round the caves and you'll face a wasted journey. It does only take 20 minutes to get anywhere in Malta though so it's not all bad. We returned the next day!

It's €8 per person to take a boat tour around the amazing 'blue grotto' caves and they leave every few minutes so don't worry if it looks chocka when you get there. One look at all the coach loads of people can be a bit daunting. Our guide was boss, a little Maltese man who every few seconds was poking us going "look, look, water very blue!"

Once you've finished your tour (lasts around half an hour) there are a couple of stone piers in a little bay where you can spend the day snorkelling and sunbathing and diving off cliffs. If you get hungry try Kingfisher restaurant which serves all the freshly caught fish.
